I have a 1988 Force 85hp outboard. I am having trouble starting. The problem is I am not getting any spark to the plugs. I tried disconnecting the stop circut from the terminal strip and this allowed me to start the engine. I have traced wiring and can not find a problem. Can it be the start switch or stop switch? I have twin 85 on my boat so, I tried using the stop switch from the other motor this did not work. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
KevinGps

You should be working with a manual.
You can get at the library, the tab at the top of the page,NAPA,amazon.com,ebay ,etc
Stop circuit is pretty simple, simply shorts to ground. Could be a wire frayed or pinched or even
a defective key switch.Remember stop switch is open to run closed to stop.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I am working with a manual! Clymer's "offical shop Manual" The only advice it gives is "repair or replace boat wiring or stop button as required.

I was looking for a little more help. I have been through the wiring in the boat and not been able to find the problem. The only thing I have not done is replaced the key switch.

check under the engine cover right side, rear, on top for a 20 amp fuse
