88 freedom 160 cranking issue

I had my starter bolts broke off in the bolt housing. When I got the bolts out and put my starter back on I had to wire the starter back. After rewiring my starter I run into an issue with the boat cranking. When I use the key ignition I get nothing. When I use a kick start switch hooked to the solenoid it will kick over but will not stay running. To keep the engine running ive had to wire the positive terminal to the distributor and this keeps the motor running. I also do not correctly read voltage to my volt meter on the dash unit. I know it’s not a mechanical issue but am fairly positive it is an electrical issue. I’ve got pictures of the solenoid, key ignition and distributor to show. If anyone has a wire diagram to the 88 160 freedom or any ideas as to what I need to troubleshoot I would greatly appreciate the info.

Ayuh,....... Welcome Aboard,...... How many wires, 'n of what colors do ya have at the starter's solenoid,..??..??

Generally speakin', there should be the big red battery cable, an orange wire to the alternator on the big post, 'n possibly another red wire, to feed the boat/ trim pump,....
A yellow/ red wire on the tiny terminal nearest the motor's block, 'n possible a purple/ yellow to the ignition on the outer tiny terminal,.....

Yes I’ve got 3 fairly decent sized wires on my big post(+). I’ve got one red and white wire going to the S terminal closest to the block, and I’ve got a purple wire going to the S terminal away from the block. With this wire setup I get nothing. But when I hook a kick start wire from the S terminal to my + terminal I push the kick starter button and it will turn the starter but will not keep the motor running.

Ayuh,....... That terminal should only have the wire from the Start circuit from the key switch, which runs from the key switch, to the slave solenoid, to the start terminal on the starter's solenoid,.....

Is the key switch providin' power to the coil's (+) tiny terminal, in the Run position,..??
If not, that's why it quits when ya let off the key, from the start position,......

When I turn the key from off to acc the gauges will come on, but my volt meter isn’t reading 12. When I turn the key to crank the motor I get nothing. But on my solenoid I have only one wire going to my S terminal which is white with red stripe. And on my R terminal I’ve only got a solid purple wire. The white with red stripe wire seems to be going to my distributor. In the second picture the red wire leads to my ignition switch

Ayuh,..... The R terminal is only powered when the starter is engaged,......

What powers up in Acc is irrelevant,....

Test the wires to see which is what,.....
I explained which wires go to which terminals,.....
