after the boat sits for a day or two and i first start it, i get an alarm at the controls. it is about 2 seconds on, then 2 seconds off. the water pump stream is good. water pump was rebuilt a few years ago which didn't fix the alarming. motor has never been worked on, other than the water pump. the motor does have the vro. i have been premixing the gas/oil ever since the alarm showed up. any ideas of what to check?

Thanks,
brat

if you are premixing any way, just remove the oil tank, disconnect the wires, but the oil line about 2 inches from where it goes into the motor, and plug the oil line, now remove the 3 or 4 wire connector that goes to the fuel pump. you have just disabled the VRO, and have a straight fuel pump for the premixed fuel, and the alarm has been disabled. quiet cruising.

Re: 88 johnson 110 alarm

I really want to have the vro working instead of having to premix. Is the alarm from low flow, high temperature, or what?

thanks,
brat

If you do have a suspect VRO pump then I found it was a very expensive repair. ($508 for the pump alone) when mine started to go. I changed to a OEM premix pump for $70 (ish) and a quick adaption under the hood. Running like a charm now.
TD is giving you great advice.
