I have just bought a J25RCCA and i can't get the lower unit off. I have taken the 4 bolts out and also the nut off too. Its has never been off by the looks of it and i have only a small gap in the back, like i could slide a piece of card stock paper in and in the front of the lower unit there is no gap. Do i have to take the power head off or undo the shift rod down at the bottom?

Hope this is enough info for you all.

You have to remove the water intake screens then unscrew the brass nuts & slid up the top one so you can remove the split plastic ferrule. Leave a couple of bolts in the unit to keep it from sliding off.

As above to disconnect the shift rod but from what you say I suspect the stud, from which you removed the nut, is being held by corrosion etc round it. A bit of gentle heating and some release oil might help.

I have heated the stud up with a butane torch and have sprayed penitrating lube on it and have been using a piece of wood and a hammer and still not moving. It has never been off before either.... what else is there to do?
