Does anyone know if this engine runs on straight gas or a mix. If mix, what is the ratio?

The mix is 50:1 US 87 or 89 Octane to TC-W3.

If you are using the VRO2 pump that came with the engine, the oil is automatically mixed from a tank at a variable ratio of 50:1 to 100:1 which was discontinued after 1992 on newer motors in favor of OMS.

It is important to verify that the pump is mixing properly if the VRO2 pump is used as a mixing pump. It can easily be converted to pre-mix.

Here's a link that should help with understanding the VRO systems: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html

1. Check for the presence of an oil tank
2. Check that the oil line is connected to the fuel pump.
3. If the answer to #1 and #2 is yes then make sure the oil in the tank is not contaminated with water or anything else.
4. If in any doubt that the pump is working correctly then premix the gas at 50 to 1 and run for a while to verify that the oil level in the oil tank is dropping. Your motor will run a little smokey if both premix and pump are happening at once but it will do no harm to the motor and if you confirm the oil is getting through then put in straight gas in the gas tank from there. This is better than frying your motor through no lubrication.
5. Keep the oil tank topped up and an eye to the level before each trip. Best to keep a jug of oil on board just in case. You can always use it in the fuel tank to premix if the oil side fails while you are out in the middle of the lake.

Good Luck.
