Found a 88 Renken that the owner says he can't get to turn over by hand. (Don;t know why he doesn;t try using the battery.) He is not sure of the engine nor the drive. I am a car guy, and I am thinking that if I could get this cheap enough, I could rebuild it myself. It is a 140 OMC.
Should I even bother? What would it typically cost to rebuild it and the o/b? (Tough question I know - but somone out there should have a good idea.)

Thanks for all your help!

Randy

The Motor is a piece of Cake,..... Any Quality MachineShop will rebuild it...........
I'd think that $1000. to $2500., Depending on How Much, or How Little of the Labor you can do Yourself.......

The Outdrive Might be an Issue........
There's getting to be Less,+ Less folks who Do Work on OMCs.........
Price,..??, I Don't Know...... I Don't do OMCs.............. ;)

How cheap is cheap? The most I'd spend is 500, with a trailer. Really the boat should be free. 2k is probably the value.

"88 Renken "

Regardless of the engine, that's reason alone to not buy it. If that boat has not been stored inside all it life, I can almost bet you that the seats are rotted, and probably the floor as well.
By 1988 Renken was doing better, but in the early 80's they did what a lot of people did, rushed boats out the door to sell them fast & cheap. And the 1983 Renken we owned was "fast and cheap"
