About time to put the ole' glasstream back in the water. It has an Evinrude 88 spl and ever since I've had it the trim has been kinda noisy. It seems that when you lower the motor all the way down it runs real fast until a certain point. Then it slows considerably. If it sits for a while with the motor up and then you got to lower it the trim runs but the motor doesn't move. After a few seconds it drops to the point where you stopped the trim. Should I check the oil in the trim and if so, how do I do it? Don't wanna burn up the trim on a cheap boat, it runs good.

Re: 88 spl power trim

It's a good idea to check the fluid level at least every year. Check the fluid level with the trim and tilt cylinders fully extended. Add fluid to bring the level up to the bottom of the fill plug threads. Loosely install the fill plug and cycle the unit in 10 second spurts adding fluid as needed. Go through 5 complete cycles to purge any air from the system. Tighten the plug. I use OMC Power Trim/Tilt fluid myself although GM Dexron ll is also allowed by OMC.
