Just got the motor few weeks ago, got everything ready togo for the weekend, how many MPG should I expect? I have a 16 foot ski barge, I have two tanks I can use: should I use the 13 gal, or 6gal and take extra in a can. Thanks

The engine will burn about 9 gal. per hr. at full throttle. It would be interesting to know what fuel price's are going to do to boating use this summer.

What R.Johnson means is hook a fuel barge up to your ski rope, you're going to need it.

In boating we refer to it as "Smiles per Gallon". Any other way would be depressing.
It's exactly as my Fuel/Wallet gauge indicates, an inversely proportionate relationship.
Classic.

i have an 88 88spl, on a light boat 18' Aluminum, and get great mph, but on a ski barge, fill the tow vehicle up just before reaching the ramp, and take a siphon hose, and oil with you. both 13 and 6 gallon if planning on skiing all weekend. i have a 25 gallon tank and can empty it in a day of skiing.

I have a 1996 Johnson 88 spl on my dory and I get 2.8 nautical miles per gallon in typical open ocean conditions. The boat is a 22 foot power dory, flat bottom, 8 foot beam, high freeboard, with a loaded weight of 2,600 pounds. Typical ocean conditions for me are 5-15 knots of wind and a 5 foot swell. On flat water the mileage would be better. I also suspect the boat is over-propped, and will be adding a tachometer shortly so I can sort that out.
