I had a problem with my runabout seeming to run out of gas. The only thing was that the tank still had gas in it. So I changed the fuel line and primer bulb(all one piece). Well it seemed to act funny when I primed it like it was flooded. I couldn't tell if the thing was actually pulling gas up or not, so I left and came back and the bulb is full. Now the thing will not start, it turns over all day but wont crank. The choke flaps are working but even starter fluid wouldn't help. I am at a loss. Figures it would happen on a holiday weekend.

coosa,

DON'T use starter fluid in that engine.

Some things to check:

1. Do you have spark? If not, check the fuse right near the starter solonoid.

2. Is your primer solonoid (little black tubular looking thing on top of the air box) valve pointed the right way?

By the way, you must be near where my parents live. They live on Logan Martin. They are visiting me now.

Re: 88 spl won't start

Oops!I already sprayed some in. The carb has a cover of some sort and it looks like the air intake is on the sides so I sprayed a wee bit in there twice. Did I make a costly mistake? I also have a broken plug wire. The wire came out of the boot that attaches to the plug. When I touched it to the plug it sparked so I guess I 've got spark. I put that new fuel line and it feels like its flooded or something.

I'm about 20 mi down river from Logan Martin Dam. I'm on Lay Lake, but I have some friends up on Logan Martin. Both lakes are nice in spite of crowds and fish advisories.

coosa,

It's probably fine. FYI, the best way to introduce fuel is by mixing up some 50:1 and putting it in a spray bottle.

You will definetely have to fix that plug wire. But, that shouldn't keep it from starting.

The best way to start these is to:

1. Turn the key to the "on" (not crank) position.

2. Push the key in and hold it for an eight count.

3. Release the key.

4. Turn the key to crank the engine. Do not prime it anymore while it's cranking. If it starts and wants to die, push the key in momentarily to give it a shot of fuel.

By the way, you don't have the fuel line hooked up backwards do you? The primer bulb has an arrow that denotes fuel flow. It (arrow) should be pointed toward the engine.

Thanks for your help. I couldn't have come up with that for sure. Th fuel line was on backward alright, turned it around , shoved the plug wire together and we were off for a 4 hr ride. Thanks again.
