Hello all, I recently traded some old Go Karts for a 1988 Stratos 1700-XL. I knew it had a few problems but nothing I don't think I can handle. The bottom of the ski locker was rotten and I figured it had moved into the stringers, which it once I cut the middle of the floor out I was able to see I was correct. Now, my question is.. Do I need to remove the cap to go forward on this project? Mind you the engine alone is worth more than I had in the go karts so I'm out nothing if this ends up in the dump.

That looks like you can open things up and access the stringers without pulling the hull apart at the rub rail.

Saves some work vs having to take the top off as in a typical bass boat. But you still have a major project to fix it.

An I/O doesnt require removal of the cap to replace even the transom.

If you're tearing into it, check the transom very carefully.

Uhmmm, if the stringers are toast, there's a real good chance that the Motor mounts and the transom will have issues as well. If that's the case then you'll have to pull the motor. Once it's out you'll know more about whether or not you have adequate access to get all the work done. More than likely you WILL!!!! Make sure and take LOTS of measurements and pics. You'll need em later on the Go Back!!!
