Started and ran boat up to normal temp and shut er down for 10-20 mins twice before takin er out. started er up no problem and ran er for 20 mins shut er down and she would not start up again. Once system cools down completely 4 or five hours later "after being towed back in three times on three different days" she cranks up. Batteries are good had em checked.. Alt gauge shows a good charge (and always have juice just does not seem to have spark and cranking the engine draws the life right outta the battery) Last time I was towed back I pulled the distrib/coil wire off and held approx 1/2 in from distrib - I could see a small blue ark IE spark.. Any Idea's????

you need to sure that you are really getting spark witk a spark checker (auto parts store sells one thar you can touch the outside of the wire to check)or you can use a plug be carefull

if no spark when hot time to use a meter to see if coil is loseing power when hot

or ohm out coil to see if it is failing when hot

if you have spark then you have some type of fuel delivery problem

vapor lock
cloged fuel filter
ect
ect

tommays

You could be loosing spark, or you could be loosing fuel. You need to check for spark and make sure you are getting fuel out of the carb from the accelerator pump.
When was the last time the engine was tuned up. And what engine is it, Merc, Volvo, OMC, and is it a 4 cylinder or a V8. V6 or what......can't guess at all the possibilities.

Don, is that thing carbed? Last time I had an engine that did that it was because the fuel in the fuel line just before the carb overheated & expanded then leaked down the carb & flooded out the engine when I shut down. I could let it sit a while & it was good to go, 'till I shut it down again. I was able to look down the carb throat & see the gas leaking into the manifold. I just re routed my fuel line on the boat engine & did the same thing plus put a fuel pressure regulator on the RV engine. Both start fine now, hot or cold. Might want to check the needle & seat in the float bowl too.
