I have a 1987 88hp Johnson V4. It idles badly and the lower left chamber does not fire. I have changed plugs twice and checked the wires. the ocmpression is fine and I have sprayed carb cleaner all int eh carberator without taking it off the motor. Any suggestions?

Do you have spark on that cylinder? Check that first. If so, I would look for fuel related problems. If not, I would be looking at the wiring to make sure everything is tight and corrosion free. Could also be bad coil...

I have a spark on all plugs and i replaced fuel hose and bulb and installed a new gas filter. What are some test I can run to troubleshoot the problem. FOr example is the reed vlaves are clogged can I cure that without removing the carbs?

If it has spark, how did you determine that it's not firing? Not trying to be a wiseguy, I just can't tell what the symptom is here. (I understand it's idling rough.)

I guess I should say that it seems to be only running on 3 cylinders instead of four and I am guessing that gas may not be getting to the spark. Also when I have the air cover off the carbs, there is gas coming out a hole below the bottom carb. Is that normal or could that be my problem?
