I'm thinking about adding power tilt and trim my motor. The dealer says 800 to 900 for theirs. Have been looking online at aftermarket units. Panther and CMT. Anyone using any of these or does anyone have a recommendation? Will I be able to use the tilt switch on the throttle?

Re: 89 40hp tilt and trim

I have a CMC and it works fantastic. I have the smaller one for the 30 hp and below but it is jsut a baby to there full size. Get the CMC and save the money and CMC is a very nicy company and friendly and will help if you have the smallest simple question.

Yes you can wire there switch right to a TNT on the shifter or wheel. I got a new OMC control with TNT and it works so sweet. :)

contact some places like outboard recycle in alabama or soutwest in FL. they usually sell reman units for 400 or so.
you may even seach around the iboats site as they deal with reman stuff. anything is better than that silly gas shock setup.

Before ordering an aftermarket tilt/trim unit, check out the steering cable. Make sure it has enough play to reach the motor when it is 6 or 8 inches farther back. Remember that those after market units like CMC offset the motor back from its original location.

I purchased a cmc 130 and the cost was about 500. you have a seperate switch that you raise or lower. you could add to throttle if you already have a switch there. there is a six inch set back, most cables have enough length to allow you to use it. you raise the motor up higher because after the water leaves the transom it travels up higher, so this means higher motor heights about 1to 3 inches from bottom of transom.I like mine alot, it was a pain having to manualy raise and lower each time.
javsam
