89 50 hp Force upper two water ports wanting to plug them up?

I've added the tell tail water hose and exiting through the side of the engine. Now can I plug up the two original holes where the water and exhaust coming out from the rear crowl? Will it create any high back pressure and damage the engine? The reason I wanted to plug them up so that all the exhaust can go down into the water. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

I may have missed an earlier post by you in regards to your present post. Why was a tell tail needed if the pee holes were already pushing out water? That's really all you need. A good spray out of the pee holes tells if your pumping water or not at the impeller.

Bentle has missed the point....you have a pee hole that you can see so your idea is you dont need the two holes on the lower casing ..WRONG ...these are to allow exhaust to escape when starting /reduce backpressure when the lower part of the silencer is full of water and the outlet blocked off . When exhaust pressure builds up then really you dont need them....all outboards have a similar arrangement ....

and for bentle ..you need a proper pee hole where you can see it and the strength of the jet from the pee hole is an indication of the conditon of your water pump impeller ..close observation of this feature is important . Another way is to fit a pressure gauge to the cooling system 0-30 psi is good

Good advice as always. And I'm all for having a good impeller. I change mine every year and the water blasts out my two pee holes like a fire hose. I assumed I had missed some other post at some point, but thanks.

by pee hole we mean a 1/8 dia hole and the water shoots 6 ft

I added one to my 50 hp and recommend it. The marina I launch at has eel grass/weeds that you have to drive over during very low tides in shallow water. When the tide is low and this happens I always look back and check pee hole spray and often it is weak and so I have to stop and lift motor and remove the vegatation/weeds from blocking water intake. Without the added on pee hole you don't know if you are getting blockage....it is hard to tell even if you walk back and look at the 2 little exhaust/water exit holes, as they spray more of a mist then a solid stream. Highly recommend adding telltale/peehole.
