I have a 1989 50 HP - ELF Model - on a 15 ft Chaparral
The boat has sat for over 10 years - Replaced the gear oil - replaced gas tank and hoses - replaced 2 cycle oil - I rebuilt the 3 carbs -replaced water pump - Took it for its first trip on Sunday - Ran good for about 10 minutes - the rpms went from 4,200 RPMs to 2,000 - no signs of over heating (water pump working fine) the buzzer did not go off ( I tested it before it it had worked). At idle the motor had a intermittent chirp type sound, Took it home and found that the oil injector pump was siezed in the full counter clockwise position and will not move. Pulled pump yesterday and can get no movement from it at all. Plan to replace the unit. But my concern is that I hope I didn't harm anything in the engine when I was at WOT. I read that the motor should go to 2,000 RPMS when it overheats and the buzzer sounds or if the oil level drops in the tank and the red light comes on and the buzzer sounds.
Any suggestions about the chirping sound ( his was not doing this before I tested it in the water).
Thank You
