89 50hp force impeller

Just bought a 1989 quantum bass boat with 50hp force. I was told the boat needed impeller pump. Hooked up muffs and no water pissed. Removed lower unit and I don't see why its not pumping. Sure the rubber paddles are a little bent but looks alright. Also I notoced there is no gasket or silicone between lower inut and motor. Is this right? Also does this motor have a thermostat? Is the impeller bad or the tube plugged or what? Its a 89 50hp force thanks for replys

If the vanes on the impellor are really worn, it will fail to draw up water because it can't create the force necessary to do so. To answer you second quesyion- no, there isn't suppossed to be sealant or a gasket between the lower unit and the engine itself.

I have a 1988 125HP. My impeller looked fine too. All in one piece, fins were a little bent. Replaced it and made a world of difference in the water flow. I don't think you can really tell if they're good or bad by looking at them. I think the amount of flex left in the rubber fins plays a part. The fins on the new impeller were a lot stiffer than the old one. Also look at the cavity of water pump body where the impeller sits and the stainless steel wear plate that the impeller sits on. Shouldn't be any major gouges or wear here.

If you're looking at the spark plugs, the thermostat is mounted towards the top of the head under the small cover that is held in place with I believe three screws.

There is no gasket or silicone sealant between the lower unit and the motor.

Thanks for the help guys I guess I wil order the impeller blade and backing plate. If that don't work I will replace the tstat. Two more questions. The ring that sits 2 and 1/16 on the drive shaft. There is no seal ring on it. It mite be up oin the motor is that ok? Also the plastic piece ois gone off the motor that squirts water down. There are jst two holes there is that ok?

Thanks guys she spits now. Nw I jst got to get my starter fixed and ill be reqdy to go. I'm still afraid that there's no seal under the splines ontop the driveshaft. Is that going to f something up? Also I put it a whole tube f grease and I don't think it wqs enough but they raped me on the price of the grease. I'm worried bout that seal it mite be up in the motor but it mite not
