i'm new at this internet thing. don't know where or how i should be asking these question about this motor. i've posted here before and don't know how to amend to the existing post or if i'm suppose to.

okay the gas problem i was having was not from the carbs or the primer. the gas that was coming out of the intake manifold hose/tube going back to the breather housing was coming out of the fuel pump. at some time someone had i guess rebuilt the fuel pump and did not get the gasket on properly. that problem is solved.

now the carb adjustment. the motor seems to idle better when the screws are backed out 2 1/4 turns instead of 1 1/2 turns or less. Is this harmfull?

new problem is the motor will not run at higher speeds without pushing the choke button (thumb gets sore). After doing this for a while the motor slows down. when do i go from here?

the 1 1/2 was for the early motors, 50's & 60's. on your motor start adjusting at 4 1/2 turns out. on your high speed. holding the choke, shows fuel starvation. seeing you have replaced the fuel pump. 99% you have clogged or clogging high speed jets in the carbs. i would rebuild the carbs with kits, besure remove and clean all the jets.
also replace fuel lines with alcohol resistant lines. read ethanol, and carbs, also i would check WOT timing. >>> http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=299680

by the way, tashasdaddy says that is a good motor.
