Hi all....Just so you know...I have replaced the two exhaust manifold gaskets, replaced the head gasket, replaced the fuel pump gasket, cleaned the carbs with seafoam, run fresh gas with seafoam in it (many cans worth) to correct a constant problem with rough idle and stalling......the compression is 135/135/130 top to bottom...I have a problem starting the thing and getting it running so I can move away from the dock at reasonable rpms........I have to shift arounf 1000 rpm and if the I let it get under that it "burps" and quits :( ........what next...
Thanks Tim

Re: 89 85hp Force

next is a removal and cleaning of the carbs. cant clean them with seafoam. install new gaskets in the carbs the kits are cheap. next is a total rebuild ofthe fuel pump not just a gasket. while the carbs are off carefully inspect the reeds. the force reeds had a tendancy to chip the tips off.
and remove the puddle drain covers and insure the check valves and screens are clean. what that burb is is an explosion in the crankcase due to a lean air fuel mix. it actually tries to force the downward moving piston back up. so its time to crack the old manual and spend 50 bucks or so. but if all is ok that motor will idle at 650 to 700 rpm all day

Hello,

Did you allready have maximum speed for a time ? It can be that you have sludge in your engine what have to burn off. I had the same with my Force 85 HP after a time of not boating.

Succes, Freek
