I have a question as I now have a working tach I am getting to the point that i will be able to start getting zoned in so I can get the proper prop for the boat make it preform at least a little better. The WOT rpm rating on this motor per the service manual is 4500-5500rpm with the power rating occurring at 5000 rpm. Where should I try to get the motor to run at 5000 rpm or 5500 rpm?

thanks in advance for what might be a stupid question.

actually with today's fuel you want that motor to turn 5500 -5800 rpms wot.

just as a follow-up what is it in today's gas that makes it better and lets the motor run at a higher rpm.

Re: '89 88 spl wot question

Thanks for the info. That is starting to explain why the boat is a dog. WOT it was turning 4300 rpm and maxing out at a crowd pleasing 27mph on the pital. Adding 1500 rpm with the right prop on it should help this boat out significantly.

Thanks again for the advice
