I have an evinrude 8hp long shaft. I just bought the boat and motor this year, On my second trip out the drive shaft broke, right before the botom spline. I have a service manual, but this is my first trip inside and outbards innards. or lowers..oooh bad joke...I dissasembled lower unit all I found was driveshaft snapped clean. All of the gears thrustwashers,etc are in good shape or show little wear. Everything moves freely, nothing binding. The shear pin on the prop shaft is isn't broken. I guess I'm mystified as to why it broke. I am relativly sure i did not hit anything with the prop. (it doesn't even have any nicks on it) I bought a new drive shaft, and pump rebuild kit. I plan on reassembling Since I see nothing else wrong. If any one has any advice please let me know. My service manual talks about performing pressure & vac. tests on lower unit before filling with lube. Does a good omc dealer stock a kit for this ie; ports, gauges. Also any tips on adding the lubricant. Any advice is appreciated
