89 Evinrude 140 Fuel Pump

I just purchased a 78 Robalo R190 about 2 months ago and I currently have an 89 Evinrude 140 that the previous owner modified with an electric automotive fuel pump. I dont have a clue as to weather this is even supposed to work this way. I have the orginal fuel pump that they took off and would like to eliminate the electric fuel pump that was installed. I want to replace the fuel pump but I would like to eliminate the VRO; as we all know the VRO is not reliable and I feel more comfortable mixing my own gas and oil. Is there a fuel pump that will work for this application?

Oh BTW I am new to the forum but I have been reading the post from previous and I think it is awsome what you guys do for the average joe.
