After a week on my first boat I think I got stuck with a lemon. It was driving fine all week and suddenly came to a dead stop. Got plenty of gas, oil and cooling. Tried pull staring with rope and flywheel doesnt even spin one full turn. Is my outboard now a siezed anchor or can it please be something less major? I'm good with cars and from that POV, it clicks as if the STARTER went bad. Friend suggested maybe STATOR is siezed.

Could be anything from a flywheel magnet to a sheared connecting rod.Don't have enough info to advise any further. You'll have to inspect the engine and tell us what you find.

Pull the plugs out and see if you can rotate the flywheel by hand.

Re: 89 Evinrude VRO is stuck WON'T SPIN

Thanks for the advice. Pulled plugs and WAS able to spin by hand. Still will do compression check after I charge battery. When it conked out, it conked like a stall. Didn't hear any rod like clunks. It had been cranking hard previously to this, needing to use booster pac. Reading your suggestions now draws me closer to flywheel magnet, no pun intended. To pull flywheel, can I use an auto dampner puller? Looks to be the same kinda deal.

You can probably use the dampner puller as long as it aligns with the flywheel bolt holes. Don't use anything that pulls on the edge of the flywheel. You may have to whack the center bolt on the puller once its tight to get the flywheel off.

Have plenty of compression, pulled the flywheel off and the stator it was. Thanks for all the help.
