Hi everyone,
My brother has a '89 Force 125 on his boat. We were out fishing the other night, and we bottomed out on a sand bar. It didn't damage the lower unit or prop, but ever since then the motor won't pump water like normal, all it does is blow steam.

I told my brother, that it sounds to me, like the water pump was partially plugged or the impeller is missing a fin. So tonight, we took the lower unit off and the impeller looked pretty good. It had some wear and the inside of the housing was pitted a little but from my experience, nothing that would keep it from pumping water. We took a garden hose and completely flushed out the motor, and checked the thermostat to see if it was opening. Everything looked good so we reassembled everything and it still wouldn't pump water, just steam. Some water has to be getting to the powerhead, to create all the steam.

He said he's going to order a new impeller and water pump housing, but I just wanted another opinion on it.

Sounds like he sucked up some sand.Somewhere in a fitting or a water line.A fitting may have been partially blocked & sand finished the job.

When I replaced the impeller on my Force, it didn't look that bad either. But it definately worked right after I put a new one in.

We flushed everything out with a piece of rubber hose connected to the water pickup tube that normally sits in top of the water pump housing and everything is clear. We also flushed the lower unit. So I guess it has to be the water pump. We'll try replacing it.
