89 Force 50 hp overheat

I have an 89 Force 50 hp motor, about 3 weeks ago I was out fishing with a friend when my overheat buzzer came on. We got a tow back to shore and when we got home, we took out the thermostat and found that it was fried, I then replaced the thermostat and had since ran about 12 gallons worth of gas thru it without a problem, then all of a sudden it started to overheat again. The whole cooling system seems to be in good shape, but I dont know what else could be causing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same engine and overheat problems. Did you find a fix? My pump impeller is new, I have blown compressed air through the system and found no blockages and even removed the thermostat but it still overheats. I'm wondering if you found a fix. Thank you in advance!

i have an 98 force 50 as well. maybe the housing is bad. loosing prime with impellor???

You cannot revive an old thread to post your question. Try starting a new thread and members will more likely to respond to it. Just make sure you also post details of the problem and what you have done so far to diagnosis or correct it.

Is water being pulled into the engine? If you take the thermo stat out and run it does water come out?
