89 force lower unit 50 hp HELP please

hello i am new to this forum i just bought a 89 50 hp force motor needs a lower unit how do i find out which one is the right 1 to buy with out taking the old 1 off the model number and serial number has faded away and is it capatable with any other year this is my second force motor thanks for any help or advice i can get -----john

If you give the right year for your motor then that should be good enough.
pull the lower off and on the inside top there may be some numbers there to work with.
