Ive got a 1989 force 125 Im having a problem with it dieing out when I give it throttle but it will only do it under a load I can open the trottle all day long in the driveway with the water hooked to it. It almost sounds like it is starving for fuel so I checked the bulb and it was not hard but I will get hard when I pump it. Could the bulb be my problem or could it be something else?

Sounds like a bad fuel pump diaphragm. Check it and, rebuild kit if needed. The primmer bulb should stay firm after primming, and if it isn't then replace primmer bulb. Is there an in line fuel filter, if so then it may be plugged. Replace as needed. I like the clear ones so I can
check it for any air bubbles and see that its getting fuel.
Really sounds like a bad fuel pump diaphragm though.

I had the same issue with my 1989 150hp. It sounds to me like you have exhaust fumes building in the cowl. If the engine runs fine with the cowl off (in the water) check for exhaust leaks.

It does'nt matter cowl on or off it still runs the same just matters if it is under a load or not.

Re: 89 Force question

Also as a rule of thumb. Do a compression &spark test on all cylinders. These fuel pumps need adequate compress to be able to supply enough fuel to the carbs. Spark test is only to verify spark to each cylinder, but may as well check it while your at it.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.
