I have a 1989 Johnson 60 HP that suddenly would not start and little spark. I replaced the power pack and the stator which fixed the starting and no spark issue. In testing at home with the ear muffs everything appeared great, started right up. I put it in the water and when I started it I lot of smoke. Once I got going it seemed to be running good until I accelerated into higher rpm. Then the motor started shaking badly and making popping noises. Is it possible I wired something incorrectly or got the trigger or something else off when installing the stator?

racerone, the torque wrench I have wasn't the right size for the socket on the flywheel so I didn't use one.

But you have to torque the nut to 102.5 FT LBS.----If flywheel key sheared the timing will be off.----And was stated it could be overheating ang going into S.L.O.W. mode.

I took the flywheel off, everything looked good. Put it back on and torqued it as you said. Same issue still, how would the temperature sensor cause the motor to shake? Which wire is the temp sensor?
