I have a Larson DC 170 with a 3.7 mercruiser with an Alpha one outdrive. I need to change the starter on it and would like to know what size wrench it takes, and any tips to make removing the starter easier. Thanks for any help on this matter.

exactly, nobody on this forum, besides you, is there to hold your hand with the proper size wrench in it to assist

you may take some pictures of the bolt heads, then we can guess as to the size, or better yet, hold a tape measure up to the bolt head in the picture, then we can read it, post and tell you what size the heads are

when noone responded to your other thread about this question didn't it dawn on you that you should have some initiative and try some of your wrenches to see which fits??

Can't remember exactly, 5/8 I think. It is a bolt with a nut, so as I recall (and my recollection is mighty poor:confused:) you have to get a wrench on the front and another behind the engine Make sure you get on the right nut, lots of them back there). You might be able to get a socket on it. You have to remove the brace from the block, and it is a pain to get out. You might consider replacing it with a permanent magnet gear reduction starter (check e-bay) part #2-2591-DR-2 about 1/3 smaller and WAY easier to install. Good luck
