plugs fire on all 6 cyl. fuel pump good, hoses and connections good, oil rod adjustment good. enrichment valve good, compression good, temp sensor good, fuel clean and good filter. bulb good. not running hot either. Temp @ 148
problem occured once before, it wouldnt get over 2000 rpms. but i held the throttle down and it just cleared up on its own. Ran fine for 3 -4 months with no problem. then without warning its back. was running great around 4500 rpms and the bottom just fell out. nothing more than 2000 rpms.
I tried to test stator but the color codes in the wiring schematic in the seloc manual show different colors than mine when I guessed at it I got around 28vac and regardless of what wires I tested together, I never got any higher reading. Any suggestions? :(
any help or advice appreciated. thanks Randyc

You may want to check and make sure you don't have a coil that has spark arking over to the motor. I had this problem once and it caused a intermittent drop in rpms. Make sure all plug wires are tight to the coil. Just a thought. Good luck.
CU

--------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

Thaanks for the reply. All was good with fuel and wiring. A test on the stator fail to give the 50 -75 vac. required. (24) is what got. I'm in the process now of pulling the flywheel. (special puller purchased). I'll do an ohms check to back up the first test. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks randyc

You realize that you can not check the voltage output with a normal AC voltmeter. An AC volt meter is designed to read a voltage at 60Hz, whereas the frequency of the AC voltage coming out of your stator is what ever the cranking speed of your motor is. I am not sure that you'd get an acurate reading with a normal meter.

To check the voltage output properly, you need a peak reading adapter, or what merc calls a DVA, which is an adapter for the DC side of your meter. A DVA has a capaciter that stores the peak voltage, so you can read it.

Scott..

thanks for the input, but I found out the hard way about meters on another boat. I pulled the flywheel and used the ohms meter to check the windings and they are bad. I replaced the stator and all is well.
Randy
