I have 89 mercruiser 3.7L 4 cyl, 165 hp
Boat started bogging down as if starved for fuel, replaced fuel filter and it ran great for 1/2 day, stalled, wouldnt restart. I believe it is the fuel pump but before I replace it anybody have any suggestions? If it is fuel pump can it be rebuilt? if not, any ideas on a good place to order new one?
Can anyone tell me if this is a Ford or Chev engine...I thought it was a Ford but many parts seem to be Delco numbers

i know this isn't what you asked but why don't you make sure filter and lines back to the tank aren't the problem. maybe hook outboard tank with known good gas to inlet of pump to rule them out. completly plugged line/filter would do this and is a much more likely cause than pump failure. went through same thing this spring.

I have worked on over 50 3.7 engines - never
had to replace a fuel pump.
Try what akriverrat said.

Your engine is what is called Mercury's
mistake. A 460 Ford cast iron head -
and an alumium block made by Mercury,
with closed cooling.

Go to - stearndrives.com - " How to do it"
They will tell you about this engine.
