89 Mercruiser Tilt/Trim

Hello, I have a 1989 Mercruiser 5.0, the throttle has tilt on 1 side and trim on the other. The tilt (on the right of the throttle) works fine up/down, but the trim (on the left side) works down but not up. It may simply be a lose connection inside the throttle but wanted some advise before I tear into it.

If everything works except the trim up, it is more likely that it is the trim limit switch/wiring than the control switch. Do you know which control you have? Sounds different than mine, can't quite picture it. To check the trim limit switch, find two black wires going into a connector with a purple/white wire and two blue/white wires (near transom). Unplug and with a short wire, jumper from one side of the connector to the other. Try trim up, if works, limit switch/wiring is the problem, if not, could be in your control switch. Good luck
