Hi, I have a 89 Mercury 45 hp Classic Fifty.
I was having problems over the last few years with the motor bogging down after I would open the throttle up to full speed. It would start fine, run fine, and then bog down after I opened it up it would bog down for a few minutes then would run fine.
I took the carbs off, cleaned them, and rebuilt the fuel pump diaphragm. Now when I take it to full speed, it runs perfect. The only problem is..now it will stall if I idle it to long, and it bogs down for a few seconds when I try to bring it up to full throttle.
Any suggestions?

Check your idle mixture. If any engine will excelerate but bogs down, the mixture is too rich. If it dies when you excelerate, the mixture is too lean. Judging from what you stated, the mixture is too rich and the engine is loading up (with fuel) after it idles for a short time. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT GO TOO LEAN ON ANY MIXTURE. YOU CA BURN A PISTON REAL QUICK ON A 2 - STROKE IF THE ARE RUN TOO LEAN.
