Last year my cobra became very stiff to shift.Shift ok with engine off. When idling,if I trip shift interupter the engine does not stumble.Could this be causing the stiff shifting?Would it be the interupter or the shift assist module.it has pertronix pointless distibutor that would affect this, but got a fix off this site for the retrofit. Is there a way to test the module and ,or the interupter? Thanks in advance.

I bet this is likely a cable issue..
There is a ESA that you can replace with, that will run with that pertonix ignition... No retro fitting weird things together..
I looked into replacing my points is the only reason I know.. Came to the conclusion that a dwell meter and a point set was cheaper...

I can trip my esa by moving the micro switch... You may have a wiring issue if that doesn't work...

I went to electronic points. They are awesome.I do a lot of trolling at idle speed and the points forever gave me issues(after about 20 hours of trolling I would have to re gap them. Was a pain.No issues with the poinless, havent touched them for 2 years,I will look into a esa for the retrofit and double check the shift cable.thanks for the reply

Don't get me wrong.. I hate points... Is just the evil I am kinda stuck with and not worth the change in my book.... I think CDI makes the ESA to use with that setup..

If everything works on land I would look closely at the interrupter. It's function is to cut/reduce power to the engine to allow the shift dogs to release to neutral. OMC has a few more degrees in the back cut and needs help to release.

for a long time when idling and sorta fishing along the banks i couldnt shift ??? then one day bam! thought and looked back and then noticed my uncle sitting on top of the sunbird dog house ?? his weight made it flex down and put pressure on the shift cable

I have the petronix ignitor II and CDI interupter module, it was necessary to get a 3 ohm resistor coil in order for it to work properly. They said you could use a 3 ohm ballast resistor also. It now works like a dream. No more panic when docking and it wouldn't shift. Also be sure that your base idle when fully warm is set properly.
