OK winter?s fast approaching so I figured we should tackle another boat. Ezmobee from the Starcraft forums found this boat for me down on the VA coast and I went and snagged it up.

This is a 1989 Starcraft Mariner 210. It?s a 21 footer and it?s set up for an outboard. As you can see it?s a little rough on the inside and the top but the hull is in good condition. Here?s a shot still hooked up to the truck. Note the big honkin console I picked up from a guy in the same area. It?s from a storm damaged 06 Sea Hunt center console. It?s about 15 inches taller than the stock one but the width is the same and it?s much nicer so I think we may use it.

Here?s another side view.

Here?s a shot of the stern. The transom?s bone dry so I lucked out on my second boat and don?t have to replace it.

Here?s a shot of the inside. The deck is shot and we already know there?s poured in place foam in there. Also the deck and the entire topside is covered with marine vinyl. We?ll replace the floor and foam and go with some new vinyl on the deck but I think the vinyl on the topside needs to go.

Here?s a shot of the console along with a spare cowl I found to go with the power plant I purchased last week. More on that later.

Re: 86 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Restoration Thread

Here?s a shot of the missing corner casting. Rumour has it I can still purchase these from Starcraft.

Mariner8.jpg

Another shot of the stock console.

Mariner7.jpg

This photo shows the soon to be replaced foreward casting area along with what I think is some kind of PO installed custom belly tank.

Mariner6.jpg

And last is a shot of the motor. This is an 86 Suzuki oil injected 2 stroke 150 HP Super Six. It's got tilt and trim and compression checks out accross the board. Should make this fishin machine scoot along pretty good.

So it looks like we need to replace the floor, foam and casting deck. Swap out the console. Remove the interior carpet and topside vinyl. Install a new belly tank, gauges, bilge pumps and soda blast and paint. Here we go again??

As a side note for those of you following, we?ve yanked the power plant out of Old Blue and she?s destined for the recycler. And the Glaspar G3 project is also on the chopping block. All part of the deal I made with the admiral for her hesitant blessing on the Mariner project.

It's gonna go slow guys. i'm covered up at work for the next 90 days or so. We'll just have to try and fit in some late nighters on it :)

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Hey NB I know this may sound a bit funny but can you do me a favor. Take some measurements on the placements of the CC that is in the boat now. Log them somewhere so I can use them in the future for a reference of where the CC placement would go in my boat. I would appreciate any and all little tidbits like that it would greatly help me in my resto completion. :D Oh also I would love to see a up close photo of how they did the control cables coming through the floor, is it just a hole or is there something there to make it look nice and neat. I know I am asking a lot here but it really would greatly help me and any others out there on the Mariners. :D

OK NB....the "Chip Foose" of Starcraft Reno's.....we will all be watching you redo "Liquid Fishing Living Room with Big Screen Fish Finder and Leather Seating Limo II" with baited breath!

Just give us all the photos so we can try the details at home....

Uh Clark, I think we're looking at naming this one Nag Free Zone :) I cracked up reading your post!

The width measurements are the same but the newer one is 15" taller.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

OK, we got a few spare moments today so I went out to the boatel and yanked all the trash and the stock console out of the boat. This will give you an idea of what's going on here. Looks like maybe the PO had some sort of fuel tank issue and installed this new one. complete with it sticking up thru the deck. to facilitate this install they just yanked the floor decking up and overlaid it on the lower peices of deck. To get the console back in they screwed down three peices of pressure treated blocking with shims under the two side peices and screwed the console to that ???? A real hatchet job!

Mariner9.jpg

Here's a close up showing the overlain decking, the custom fuel tank installation and the outline of the PT lumber.
Mariner10.jpg

So we yanked it out and heaved the new big honkin console in just to see what it looks like.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

So here are the photos with the new console in place. I need some honest opinions here folks! Is it too big? Don't forget, it still gets a small windshield and grab bars.

BTW, here's the seat/leaning post we're thinking of using. 72 qt cooler and we would build in on a base with storage to get it up in the air a little.

I can see why you asked......but I don't think the console is too big.

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

as an idea .. If you put some nice chrome railings all around the boat it would then look suited and pretty swish :)

Re: 89 Starcraft Mariner 210 CC Rebuild

Well it doesn't look too tall.... well not as tall as I thought it would from what it looked like in the back of your truck. But then again you know I will be a bit biased :D because I need the old one. But really it doesn't look as tall as I originally thought. But now that other pic thats another story there.
