Boat sat unused for many years. finally repowered motor only. The trim switches are on the throttle. Trim up and trim down on the left and tilt up and tilt down on the right. It also has the square trim gauge in the dash. Replaced the trim gauge because the lcd was unreadable. Trim down works but not trim up or tilt up and down. When i press tilt up the volt meter drops down to almost 0 with the engine running and reading about 13 volts. If i hold the tilt up for a few seconds the trim gauge gets hot and smokes a little. I see one relay next to the trim gauge so i replaced it with no change. Any guesses? Anything might help. Tomorrow im going to trace the wires from tilt up switch to their source and see what i find. The people at the marina told me this system is difficult to troubleshoot. Thanks.

It sounds like the system is getting power through the instruments somehow.

Ok that makes sense. So i guess i should be looking for a wire to wire short then? I think im going to look where the wires from the throttle switches wrap around the bottom of the throttle handle. That seems like the most logical place for something to be moving and wearing through the insulation. Thanks.
