Changed impeller, tested and no tell tale. Have cleaned pee holes. Pulled thermostat and it was pretty corroded but didnt look stuck fully closed. With cylinder cover off, cleaned as far into water ports as i could and didn't seem to find any obstruction. I have ordered a new thermostat, however, I'd like to start it without it to see if it will pee. Will this harm the engine if only run for a short time? Also, every forum and dealer I ask says motor should pee. If it won't pee without thermostat, I have decided it isn't meant to or there must be an obstruction inside engine block. I sprayed water up pump line with cylinder cover off and the water is making it into engine. Also, when testing new impeller, I had plenty of water discharge at prop. I even sprayed water into engine holes in cylinder cavity and nothing exits pee holes. There is a tunnel that runs water down lower unit and out at foot though. At my wits end here. Again, is it possible that this thing does not pee or will it harm it to start it without thermostat to see if that is the problem? I cannot find a single diagram that shows the water path throughout engine....which would help tremendously.

One more thought. As stated above, there is a passage that runs water to foot. Is it possible, that pee hole lines are part of this passageway and damaged and simply getting bypassed? Sorry for the long post.

Re: 89 Yamaha 6hp 2 Stroke- Thermostat Reqired?

Nevermind. Found problem. After hours of looking for a diagram of water passages online, I stumbled across a video of an 8 hp 2stroke yamaha with the tell tale shooting from side of motor instead of the two small exhaust holes where I was expecting to find it. Sure enough, small single hole fitting underneath motor with some calcium build up on it. Poked a coat hanger in it, started, and voila, tell tale. Everyone I have asked told me the tell tale should be the two exhaust ports in the back. Could've saved me a lot of trouble if I could've found one person familiar with these smaller Yamahas. One thing I have learned. Yamahas get a lot of praise as good motors everywhere I look, but after pricing the few parts I have for this little motor, this will be the only one I will ever own. With standard shipping, thermostat and small bushing that holds it in was $40....for a thermostat. Ridiculous. Motor really needs a new clamp bracket as one is cracked...price? $125!! In excellent condition, the whole motor has a value of a couple hundred bucks. Now I am resigned to JB Weld and some type of reinforcement. A broken motor mount should not be the end of a good motor for a ridiculously over priced part. Anyway...that's my rant.
