Hello All,

I have 1985 8hp Johnson that was given to me in many pieces. My question is about the needle bearings for the rods and main journal. I have a bag of needles but I'm not sure if they are all the same, or if I have enough. Are the needles for the center main, and the rods the same? How many are supposed to be on each journal? Thanks

Jim

Do yourself a favor and just get new ones. Bearings need to be stored in lubrication or they oxidize and rust. Last thing you want to do is toss a rod through the block after all your work for lack of a new set of bearings.

Plus, they should be replaced as removed so they can settle into the original wear pattern...seems a little impossible now that they're all mixed up.

I checked my local dealer who says that replacements are available for the rod journals, but not the main. Anyone know of a good source for the replacement needles? I still need to find out how many.
