I have what I believe is a 1988 2 stroke evinrude 8hp outboard which will not run properly. I was out on a lake for a good 6 hours where it ran great. After about 6 hours or so, the motor ran really rough so I figured I fouled a plug. I replaced the plugs even though the ones in the motor still looked good. The motor ran great for about 10 more minutes and did the same thing. I took it home and did some work on it. I cleaned the carb, checked the fuel pump, and got new plugs (which did nothing). I noticed my second cylinder's spark plug was barely sparking. So I got new ignition cables for the motor however it didn't make a difference. I attached some videos and the metal clicking/clanking noise is the motor hitting the dolly its on

Have you replaced the water pump impeller ?-----Possibly overheating.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" ( 1 cm ) or more on a spark testing device?

I don't have a spark testing device. I have the spark gap up to the spec the motor requires. But I tested each plug outside of the motor. I pulled the starter cord and one plug's spark would jump from the tip of the plug to the motor from over an inch away. When I did the same with the other plug for the second cylinder, It couldn't make the jump.

Proper spark testing does not use the sparkplugs laying on the block !---Swap coils.----If no change it is a bad coil.----If bad spark goes to the top., you might invest in a new powerpack.

Nwebb, look at LeeRoy's Ramblings website, he explains how to build an excellent adjustable Spark Tester for less than $5. Better than some of the Chinese made junk testers that break easily...
