Was looking at engine trying to figure the year and noticed the mixture sticker. Says 100:1 does that sound right? Never heard of that light a mixture before. I started it last year when I bought it but think that was 50:1.

That is correct, Yamaha has used 100:1 for a long time.

I think I heard they tried 100:1 but went back to 50:1. I could be wrong.

I believe 50:1 is the best mixture for lubrication and corrosion protection.....no real reason not to unless you're trying to save $$$ on oil!

Re: 8hp Yamaha 2 stroke

Well this one has a pic of a gas can and says 100 then a pic of a oil can saying 1. Ok I fell that's very light on oil. But I can work on 4 cyl motors a lot better then 2. So I usually just mix how they say. But this one has me a bit concerned. What's the pro's and cons on this. If it's made to run on 100:1 won't the extra oil bog it down. But would like to keep it well lubed. Also why is there so many mixes? Does any one know why a two cycle don't all take the same?

Re: 8hp Yamaha 2 stroke

i have motors that use 10:1, 16:1, 24:1 and 50:1......and i do have an evinrude that was spec'd at 100:1, but was mixed at 50:1 from new, its an 1984 ( i think).....that motor still has the original plugs. im no expert but the mix ratio is based on the type of bearings/materials used in the rotating assembly. ie....my 57 johnson has bushings and needs lots of oil....16:1, newer motors have bearings which require less, but more doesnt hurt. if i were you, id mix at 75:1 at the very least. and run some 50:1 mix before the motor gets stored for the off season.

Every time I've seen this Q the annswer hasd been yes,100:1 If you aren't comfortable with it run 50:1 it won't hurt
the motor or its operation.
