I have a 1972 Evinrude when I spray WD-40 in the car, it starts but stopes in about 15-30 seconds.

I rebuilt the fuel pump. How do I test it. If I disconect from the car and the spray WD40 into the car, should I see a constant stream of gas coming out the disconnected hose?

There is presure on the hose when disconnected. Gas will spray out when disconnected.

I bent and set the float to be level with the car housing. The car is only about half full when I open it up to check the float setting. Should it have more?

I rebuilt my fuel pump in my 1967 Johnson 9.5. Take the fuel line off the carb, and pull the starter, there should be fuel coming out of the fuel line coming from the pump. The fuel pump operates off the pressure and vacuum pulses from the engine. That vacuum and pressure is present if the engine is running or not. It just needs to be turning over.

How does the gas get from the car to the cylinders?
There is a little 1/8" brass tube coming down from the top. Is this the way gas gets out of the car? I was thinking of putting a small piece of plastic tubing on it to extend it down into the "tanK" to see if my float adj to allow more gas into to the holding tank.

What part of the car should I spend the most time to insure it's clean?
