I'm new to this motor so I am still kinda ingorant on some of the intracacies. I have read alot of posts that mention exhaust leaks. I don't think mine has a leak because it runs well with the cowl on. It will push my 12ft tinny 21 mph. My question is: does the design of this motor allow it draw enough air. It seems to would benefit from more air. But then you have the problem of dust and such getting in the carb. I'm just curious and rambling.

I have one with no problems, But have read many posts where folks will have an exhaust leak that will choke the motor out with the hood on. I would personally rip the motor apart and fix the problem, however I think that you could modify the hood or the pan to allow more are in.

I hear what your saying. I've looked mine over before and thought there aren't many places for air to get into the cowling for combustion. My final take is OMC had ten years to make a correction and didn't so I'm pretty sure the is no problem with air starvation. Rick.
