let me give you a little bit of background first.

we bought this motor used, for like 200 usd, water pump was shot, so we replaced that, but it turned out that the thermostat was shot as well.

we went to take the thermostat cap off, and it was stuck in there, so we ended up replacing the cylinder cover and getting a new cap and thermostat.

this is where we basically are, the head gasket is in there, and we used a silicone sealant for the thermostat cover, the problem is, no matter how much we yank that pullstart, it just wont kick, every 10 or 20 pulls we get a single cylinder fire, enough to make a couple bubbles out the back.

spark plugs are screwed in snug, but not too tight, and were gapped by the mechanic, motor ran fine before this little "overhaul."

if you could help with this, it would save me 200-300 dollars at the shop.

thanks

Re: 9.5 Johnson Problems

I looked at the earlier post and saw that the thread mentioned 1966. I would suggest that you follow the leads from the kill button to the connectors under the flywheel and disconnect them. If the wiring has not gone bad on the kill button, it is a miracle and you should give thanks.

If it is not that, it will be necessary to remove the flywheel and inspect the ignition syatem.

Note that if the motor starts with the kill button disconnected, you will need to choke the engine or run it out of gas to stop it.

Re: 9.5 Johnson Problems

the motor is actually my brother's, him being a little bit of a brat, decided to take it in to the mechanic after my parents said they would cover the cost, i came here figguring that i could solve his problem for free :p

anyways, he took it to the mechanic, and it seems that we made a STUPID mistake, i didnt know that we needed a new headgasket after you remove the old one.

thanks anyways
