I never wanted to become an expert at ignition testing, point gaping, timing plate removal & cleaning, impeller replacement, gearbox service, wiring repair or location parts for a 50 year old motor, but here I am.
And when I return from vacation my carb rebuild kit will finally be here. I've done carbs before but none as bizarre as what's on this 9.5.

This flea market find started and ran without needing any work but I became obsessed with making this motor the best it can be.

Just waiting for carb kit.

Not paying $100 for a new pushbutton when I can restore function & improve safety with this.

And added a fitting so it can be run on a hose.

looks good nice stop switch mod. should provide years of reliable service if you pamper it. keep it oiled 40/1 won't hurt .

your an expert now.. join AOMCI !! :)

btw if it runs good keep the carb kit for a rainy day. "if it works don'T fix it "

I still don't know if the "stumble & stop" when in gear is caused by
Carb
Heat (condensers)
Exhaust leak
Lack of gear lube.

I'm hoping it was the lack of lube bc it's the only thing I've found that was an actual problem.

If it was run with an empty gearcase you will need to inspect.----Perhaps install a seal kit.----Inspect bushing above pinion gear.

to keep it from stumbling at a to low RPM speed

and open up the idle adjustment 1/8 turn left to open it a bit more and feed it fuel .
