I have a 2002 9.5 or 9 yamaha kicker on my 16.9 smokercraft and it just moves me too fast. should I look at a smaller kicker and or is there something else that I could do to crawl like a snail with my yami.

9.5 or 9.9?

Have you looked into a prop with a smaller pitch? I've seen some small Yamaha props with huge round blades like an old electric fan. Props that come on those are generally for pushing rowboats. Yours is a special application and you should get an appropriate prop for it.

You can also try lowering the idle speed. It adjusts with a screw like most other types of carburetors. You can get those to idle as low as 500rpm or so. (It'll go lower, but the fuel pump needs at least 500rpm to draw fuel.)

The smaller the pitch the faster you go! Try a 10
pitch prop.

Or just tie an old 5 gallon pail to a short rope and toss it off the back. (tie the rope to a stern cleat first). The extra drag will slow you down when you want to go slow without killing your top end when you need to go fast...

Nav
