Ok, I'm getting conflickting info. On iboats I get j8c's, on the motor I have j6c's that were already installed and on a service manual I just downloaded it says I need j4j (which I'm assuming are j4c new number). Anyone the true correct plug or will any one of these work?
Next I just bought some Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube at wallyworld but I went to put it in and it's a green blue color like two stroke oil. Is this the right stuff for the lower unit? It sure doesn't seem as thick as trany gear oil 75-90w or what ever, and the stuff that came out of it was brown. Thanks for the help.

Re: 9.5hp 1969 correct plugs?

As far as plugs go, I would just get the J6C's J8C's are fine too. For the gear case, I would use the High Viscosity Lower unit oil, for 1972 and older manual shift models. The dealers have this on the shelf. Someone else might chime in here and let you know what, at Wal Mart will work too. I think the Quick Silver is for Mercs, because that is their brand, so to speak.

Colour of oils is not important ... its what ever the manufacturer likes to make it!

AFAIK the Quicksilver oil is fine, provided it is around 80W90 viscosity but it must not be mixed with Quicksilver Premium Gear lube (or I suggest any other unknown oil)

J4C are the recommended plugs ( Gapped at 0.030") J6C may be Ok but I would not go as hot as J8C without good reason

(J4C replaces J4J)

Sorry duplicated post ... kept getting "database error" message.
Goodness (and perhaps the administrators) knows why you cannot delete a post lock, stock and barrel.

OK, sorry Vic but not sure what "AFAIK" is?
The quicksilver oil I bought did not have a wieght designation and it did not pour like a 80-90W, more like a 10-40W. My manual says OMC type C but cant find that stuff.
So i should find some j4C's and the J8C are way too hot? What condition would constitue using hotter plugs?

AFAIK = as far as I know

OMC Type C was the oil for electric shifts, but it is now replaced by " Premium blend"

Other brands still market "type C" though. Sierra for example.

It is a lower viscosity than the "Hi Vis" oil normally used in manual shift gear cases.

Are you absolutely sure your manual says to use Type C. ?
Totally confused if it does

Re the plugs
I'd use the J4C but if they keep fouling try J6C instead. You might need to do that if you are doing a lot of low speed trolling
You are right about iBoats listing J8C though

I am with Vic on the plugs. Depending on your usage and how you gap them, all will work, but I would use J4Cs gapped at .040" or J6Cs gapped at .030".

I think the J8C is too hot for normal all-around use. The plugs won't foul, but a piston might hole.
