When I went to change the impeller, as careful as I was, i pulled the water tube out of the powerhead when dropping the lower unit. Do i need to disassemble the leg and remove the powerhead to get to the rubber compression fitting/seal, or can I just push it back in?

Thanks,

Some have just pushed it back in.-----A proper installation would be to remove the powerhead.----And yes it should stay up there.

Fun, Fun! Removing a 9.5 powerhead looks to be a blast :( Thanks for the quick answer.

Some have been so lucky as to get it back in place without removing the powerhead, but I don't know how. And it will just pull out again next time you remove the lower unit. To do it right, you need to pull the powerhead. The water tube is held in place by a push nut at the top.

Not a job for the timid, that's for sure.

EDIT: While you have it apart, take advantage of the opportunity and replace the rubber boot on the shift rod. It will need it sooner or later, so do it now. Otherwise you will be doing it again later. And take a real good look at the upper front rubber mount-another common failure item.

Yes, I've replaced that tube quite a few times the hard way.... Needed: Good vision - A great flashlight with a bright narrow beam - Long nose pliers - An assortment of bluish words not mean to be heard by children or the fair sex. Hellava job but it can be done... and sometimes one gets lucky.

Looking up the long exhaust housing in the normal tilted position, the tube receiving hole would be at the left (port) top side.
