I'm trying to replace the pushbutton kill switch on a 1966 9.8 Merc. The old switch and wiring was gone. There is a terminal block on the side of the engine with two wires running to the breaker points terminals on each cylinder. Does this ciruit loop thru the switch, or does one side of the switch ground, with the other wire from the switch being jumpered to both wires on the terminal block? I'm assuming the switch closes momentarily to ground out the points and kill the engine.

Hi Willie,
If you cross those two terminals, the motor dies. Open circuit, spark - closed circuit, no spark. They do not have to ground to the motor block.
- Scott

Re: 9.8 kill switch

Thanks a bunch. I ran the circuit through the switch, and she operates to perfection. Old motor purrs like a kitten, and no more choking it to death.
