9.8 Merc - Black pin popped out of fuel line area

After running my boat without a problem on Saturday morning, I disconnected the fuel line and tilted the motor over to put the cover on. When I tilted the motor into the boat a black pin popped out of the area where I connect the fuel line. --It didn't look broken, so I got a flashlight and looked into the hole and noticed a spring. I put the pin back in and I'm going keep an eye on it.

I ran it again on Monday and it didn't seem to effect it, but I was wondering if it hurts anything to keep the fuel line connected to the motor at all times (so I don't have to worry about it falling out again.....and then I'd just have it looked at the next time I have it serviced).

Thanks!

frosteeone,
The pin is spring loaded and is there to push the fuel line connector valve(ball) open.If you remove the pin(or it falls out),the engine will not run.The ball will prevent fuel from leaving the fuel line.Look inside the fuel line connector to see the ball/o-ring.Should not be a problem leaving connected.
