ABsolutely NO Spark on either cylinder. I was told the 'power pack' might be out. What/where<br />is this and how do I check it? Cost?

Hopefully you will get a more knowledgeable reply than this, but I had similar problem on 7.5 which required replacing both packs, although not at the same time. They are the black boxes mounted on the back of the engine near the plugs. You could also check the kill switch has not failed. I believe this activates by "making circuit" hence if it is shorted out (closed circuit) will cause you to not spark. Try disconnecting this switch first... Cheaper option!!

Thanks, I really don't see a problem with the kill. Those black boxes are actually the<br />coils, one each for the two cylinders,, right? Where is the power pack? Aren't there just<br />'points beneath the flywheel? I haven't pulled it yet! Seems strange the BOTH cylinders<br />are dead,, unless this power pack thing is bad... I don't see any such thing on this motor.

For starters we'll need your motor's serial number. Mercury changed the igntions on those 9.8s a LOT! Breaker, phase maker (two versions), & several versions of electronic ignition lead to a lot of confusion.<br />- Scott
