9.8 Mercury 2 stroke - Half Speed now Help

My 9.8 merc (85) 2 stroke was running fine until something snapped or something. Now is still starting but I can't throtle to open up on the handle. It runs half speed and I can't advance the handle pass the "Solid Resistance Point". It seems like it runs on one cylinder now.. I have changed plugs, check fuel lines and gas tank filter - still snail pace! Could it be in the "Idle Set" on the handle?

Feels like some linkage or cable clamp must slipped off or something. Handle turns up but not all the way from Star-Depart position up. It turns to the some solid block but it won't RPM UP? Not sure what is preventing it to pick up the speed...

Any ideas? I think it may be small single fix but I'm not sure if I am correct. It ran so beatifuly until last week. As an old age pensioner I would like to fix things myself. However, that may need a proffesional look if I can't fix it.

Could someone email me some suggestions? I have to go fishing! LOL

Thank you, MrGrey1

Sounds like linkage. The throttle has a stopper that won't let you over-rev when it's in neutral. Maybe the linkage between the shift lever and throttle is out of adjustment or has a broken screw.

I think I found out the problem.. I was running on One Cylinder as a 5 horse. I was not getting any spark from the right coil! I will pick up the $87.00 part today and replace the shot coil. Just hope the wire harness box before the coils separator is OK. It should be a cheap fix if I'm right..

The cable on the throttle is a bit loose, but not much. I can adjust it 1 or 2 mm, no problem there.

Thanks for your reply. I can still use more opinions here... LOL

Nope! I was wrong... Just to clerify... I've returned the coil and had to get the new "Black Box" - The Pulse Pack Regulator, before the coils. Then it got sparks and fired up both cylinders! Now its finally all good. Runs like a clock and started 10 times on first pull.

Its just that the cost was $300.00 istead of the original $87.00 bucks. So I had to pay the difference. I hope it will last another 20 years...

But what the heck... I can go fishing again.
